Hiking in Östergötland

Östergötland offers a wide range of hiking opportunities in varied nature often close to lakes, canals and the east coast.

The most famous trail system in Östergötland is called Östgötaleden and consists of about 140 km of marked hiking trails. Part of the Östgötaleden is also classified as a pilgrimage route.

In a historical context, special paths were used by pilgrims and these are often called pilgrimage routes and some are still used today. Many of these routes leads today to Vadstena, the home of Saint Birgitta. It is also popular to hike on hiking trails in nature reserves.
