Along lake Vättern

Dive into the water, the forest – or history! Some of Sweden’s most visited nature areas awaits you along the eastern shores of lake Vättern, side by side with places where history is very much alive.

Omberg offers experiences for anyone looking for adventure, or simply enjoying nature while chilling out. The area is characterized by amazing natural sceneries, dramatic cliffs and breathtaking views. And by lake Tåkern you’ll find Naturum Tåkern, a paradise for bird watchers. And for kids, who hasn’t gotten into a bird watching craze just yet, there’s Prinsessan Estelles Sagostig (Princess Estelle’s Tale Trail).

In Motala is the start and the goal of Sweden’s greatest bike race, ”Vätternrundan” – and also Varamoba-den, a highly appreciated beach that has been dubbed ”Sweden’s Copacabana”.

Vadstena is one of Sweden’s most picturesque towns, with cobblestone streets and medieval buildings. And back in the day, Vadstena was one of the power centers of Sweden – hence the great Vadstena castle. In Vadstena, you can also visit the Vadstena monastery church and the Birgitta monastery – in the good com-pany of pilgrims from all over the world.

And if you haven’t had you fill of the medieval stuff after visiting Vadstena, we urge you to take a trip to Skänninge and experience the remnants of the old Alvastra monastery. And while you’re in the neighbor-hood, make sure to experience the Hästholmen harbor with its grand view of lake Vättern.
