Forsvik, Eric Nordevall II - paddle steamer

Forsvik, Karlsborg

Visit the oldest lock in the canal at Forsvik and check out the replica of an old paddle steamer, the Eric Nordevall II.

One of the many exciting projects in Forsvik is the replica paddle steamer Eric Nordevall II, whose original lies on the bottom of Lake Vättern.

The paddle steamer, which was built 1836, came from the first generation of steamers and travelled the Göta Canal until 1856 when she hit a rock in Lake Vättern and sank.

Eric Nordevall II is a replica of an 180 years old paddle steamer built for traffic on the newly built Göta Kanal. She was one of the first ships with an engine in Sweden and sank 20 years later.

The wreck was rediscovered in 1980 and was in great condition.

It was decided in1990 to build a replica at Forsvik Yard.

The replica with its time typical engine was launched in 2009.

The paddle steamer makes some tours in the summer.
