New Castle Bjärka-Säby built in the late 1700s by the architect Fredrik Magnus Piper on behalf of Germund Louis Cederhielm. In the 1800s, you could see celebrities such as Hans Christian Andersen and Jenny Lind hike in the English park.
In 1872 the estate was taken over by Consul Oscar Ekman (1812-1907) who, together with his son Oscar developed the estate into a model farm. Ekman family built the school, retirement home, infirmary and workers in the village.
In the early 1980s, donated the family Ekman New Castle to the Pentecostal Church in Linköping, who conducted an extensive restoration of the castle. New Castle is today the seat of the ecumenical community in Bjärka-Saby and journal Pilgrim.
During the summer there are in New Castle a castle cafe in cooperation with Östgötamat. Enjoy lunch in the atrium courtyard shadow, a pastry in a baroque piece of furniture or a grilled hot dogs and live music along with MC bikers on Tuesdays.
FromJune to August is also the opportunity for guided and dramatized tours of the castle, its interesting architecture and history.
