Vadstena Castle

The construction of Vadstena Castle began the year of 1545 on initiative of the king Gustav Vasa. The fortress later evolved to a beautiful renaissance castle, finished the year of 1621. The castle is mainly open summer time, but guided tours and events are held throughout the year.

6 January – 28 april: Guided tour in Swedish every Saturday 14.00

5 May: The day of the castle, Free entrance!
6 May – 15 June: Wed - Sun 12.00 – 16.00
16 June – 12 August: every day 10.00 – 17.00
13 August – 30 September: Wed - Sun 12.00 – 16.00

29/7 The castle is open 10.00 - 15.00 due to Opera matiné.

1 October – 31 December: Guided tour in Swedish every Saturday 14.00

Castle is open all year round for pre-booked tours in english.

Guided tour fee
Adults: 130 SEK
Senior citizen/Student: 120 SEK (be prepared to show valid certificate)
Children (8 - 17 years): 90 SEK
Children under 7 years: Free


The renaissance castle of Vadstena
This is our classic tour of the castle. A guide dressed in historic garments representing one of the royalities from the Vasa-family takes you along for a historic tour in the castle. The royalty guides you through the royal suites, the festive hall and the church, how people lived in the castle and tells stories from their own lives. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour.
This tour is only available in english during the summer, but if you want to experience the castle as a group, you can make a pre-booked tour. Email us at office@visitvadstena.eu
