Sjölingården - a living museum in an 18th century town house
Here you will find an old pharmacy, an old watch-maker's shop, old farming tools and lots of other objects from different periods. At Sjölingården there is also a stable house, a smithy and the oldest museum building: the little Solbergastugan from the 1700s.
Sjölingården is profiled as a museum café because you are welcome to sit down amongst the museum objects to take your coffee - "Enjoy the coffee and taste the history!" At Sjölingården we also offer entertainment for all ages during the summer months.
Axbomsgården - remember your childhood!
The house was built in the 1700s and now houses our school museum with school books and materials from the 1800 and the 1900s. Here you are welcome to sit in the old desks from the 1800s. A popular museum for both young and old!
Sandbergsgården - with Grade I listed garden!
A town house from the 1700s where the small spy-holes in the doors show us how the maid once stood and watched upon her household. Here you will experience a 19th century bourgeois milieu where original wall paintings from the 1700s are preserved. The belonging garden with sheds, pavilion and the old plants and fruit varieties is the only Grade I listed garden in Mjölby Municipality.
Town Hall - archaeological exhibition and much more ...
In the Town Hall (old courthouse), built in 1770, S:ta Ingrid's Gille has been responsible for historical exhibitions since 1971. Here the history of the courthouse and the town itself is shown through texts, pictures and models. On display are also archeological findings along with sculptures by Gottfrid Larsson and Carin Nilson.
S:ta Ingrid's Gille was established in 1926 and has as its main purpose to care for the ancient history and culture of Skänninge and its surroundings. One of the society's goals from the beginning was to create some kind of "ancient home" in Skänninge. This "ancient home" could today be interpreted as our three old town houses where we have our museums.
We in S:ta Ingrid's Gille gratefully accept gifts to our collections. We preserve and take care of these gifts, include them in our exhibitions if possible, all with the intent of making our history tangible and easily accessible for the public.
All people are welcome to come and seek knowledge about Skänninge in our archives where we keep lots of old photographs, newspapers, documents etc. from different time periods.
There is also a local history library with all the books people have been giving us through the years.
You will find our office/archives, local history library and Town museum in Rådhuset by Stora torget in Skänninge. The museums in "Old Skänninge" are all situated round Järntorget. Take Järntorgsgatan from Stora torget.
